Student Profiles
A Reputation for Excellence
"I believe nursing is one of the most exciting professions available to students today. There are few careers where you can achieve fulfillment from helping others and still be involved in dynamic technologies and research. I chose University of Michigan School of Nursing because of its collaboration with the University of Michigan Medical Center and of course the University of Michigan's reputation for excellence in many areas of study."
-Melissa Black, BSN'02, staff nurse on the Thoracic Intensive Care Unit
Holistic Training
"I'm a Second Career student. For my bachelor's degree I majored in philosophy and was pre-med. Then I decided that as a family nurse practitioner I would get more holistic training in a shorter period of time and with less debt. I plan on using my training as a family nurse practitioner to provide primary care in an underserved community, either in the U.S. or overseas."
-Jill Richert, BSN'02, MS candidate in the family nurse practitioner program
The Best Education Possible
"The classes are challenging. The teachers are extremely intelligent. The expectations are high. In my field of research-comparable nursing data sets-the information is so new it can be difficult to even find it in the literature. The school also accommodates working students, like me. Classes are related to your daily work or where your potential career might go. At the School of Nursing I've not only made friendships that will last forever, but I'm also getting, simply put, the best education possible."
-Marcy Treder, RN, BSN, MS candidate and project manager in nursing research
Cutting-edge Procedures
"I began as a pre-med student, but switched to nursing because I'm more interested in caregiving than medicine. 'Physicians cure diseases, but nurses heal patients,' as they say. Because University of Michigan Medical Center is a teaching hospital, we have opportunities to work with all kinds of patients and with the best doctors, who are performing cutting-edge procedures. Few schools of nursing can provide such a diversity of experience."
-Ricardo Salazar, BSN'98, MS candidate in the adult acute care nurse practitioner program |
