COMMUNITY CARE/HOME HEALTH CARE NURSING
PROGRAM OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVES
The Community Health Nursing Master’s Program provides broad experience in community-oriented, population-focused, nursing practice. The curriculum is designed to prepare nurses to plan, implement, and evaluate health programs and services and to help shape and manage health care systems.
This 22 month, 36 credit-hour track is purposefully flexible.
It is offered in a combined online, on-job-on-campus (OJOC) format allowing
for distance learning. Students come to campus for one long weekend (Thursday
thru Sunday) approximately every other month.
The OJOC format
allows students to earn an advanced degree while maintaining work and family
responsibilities. Advanced clinical and management experience is an integral
part of the Community Care/Home Health Care track. Graduates of the program
are employed in diverse settings such as local and state health departments,
home health care agencies, managed care organizations, hospices, and neighborhood
health centers.
See Community Care/Home Health Nursing Program Requirements for a sample program of study, which may vary based on work experience and previous academic experiences. Individual programs of study are planned in conjunction with the student’s graduate advisor.
Graduates are provided the opportunity to obtain additional clinical experience that would allow them to sit for clinical nurse specialist certification.
