NURSING BUSINESS AND HEALTH SYSTEMS:
Programs, Faculty, and more . . .

What do the nursing management graduates say about the University of Michigan program?

"In this program, I was very fortunate to be exposed to many quality role models. I worked on actual projects in my internship that were implemented by the agency such as obtaining grant monies for a Wellness Center and redesigning the systems in a local emergency department. Being involved in research was what I enjoyed the most as a graduate student. I felt I was a very important part of the research team. In my clinical practicums, I had the opportunity to meet with Chief Executive Officers, Chief Nurse Officers, Department Directors and other Senior executives. All my classmates were actually offered jobs by their clinical preceptors."

Genie Aston Gorman, RN, MS, Associate Executive Director, Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing

"Looking back on my educational preparation at the School of Nursing, three things take precedent over all others. First is the network of professional associates I established while there. Faculty and fellow students have continued to be a significant source of support and encouragement. Second, the skill set provided by the nursing administration track provided a sound quantitative base which my administrative career has built upon. Third, I really do feel part of the "Michigan Family." Friends and associates are frequently alumni of Michigan and my association with the University has been a bond with all I've met. Some will argue that it doesn't matter where you went to school. I disagree!"

Earl Todd Ray, RN, MS, MBA, Doctoral Student, Pew Foundation Program, School of Public Health, University of Michigan

"My experiences at Michigan are invaluable to me today. World renowned faculty challenged and encouraged me to develop beyond my expectations. Some of my favorite memories include classroom discussions which were so interesting that the debate continued long after class, at one of the many local coffee houses. In my role as a nurse manager, I consistently depend on the knowledge and skills I developed in this program."

Stephanie Diccion, RN, MS, Clinical Nurse Manager, Critical Care Medicine, University of Michigan Health System

"I feel that the high level of innovation in the School of Nursing was especially stimulating and growth producing. The professors are at the cutting edge of research and are leaders in moving the profession into new paradigms. I was continually challenged to form new ideas and grow professionally by a curriculum that fostered application of knowledge to actual clinical operations and real life situations. As an added bonus, I have found myself connected to a powerful nursing network where peers share innovative ideas."

Rebecca Gascoyne, RN, MS, Nurse Manager, Rehabilitation, St. Luke's Hospital

"This program offered a tremendous amount of flexibility in meeting requirements. The approach used by the faculty facilitated my involvement in unique, innovative and real world oriented projects which were of critical interest to me. The internship and clinical experiences were great, and they were tailored to fit my interest and needs."

Debra Kish, RN, MS, Director of Operations, Comprehensive Home Health of America

"I found that my program at the University of Michigan in nursing administration gives me instant credibility! The quality of the University, faculty, and graduates is known and appreciated by the people I work with and the clients with whom I consult in my job with one of the "Big Six" accounting firms. It gives me a real boost in terms of credibility and positive expectations of my capability. The quality of my education prepared me very well for my role as a consultant. It gave me vital management knowledge as well as analytical thinking and other process skills. The dual degree in business offered me a significant view of the corporate world as well as numerous skills in finance, planning, human resources, and operations, which have been invaluable in preparing me to be successful in my consulting role. I am able to be effective with clinicians and non-clinicians alike.
