School of Nursing Transfer Guides

Transfer, RN Studies, and Second Career in Nursing

The University of Michigan School of Nursing will transfer credits from accredited community colleges and other four-year institutions to meet program-specific prerequisites. To assist prospective students, the School of Nursing has created the individual transfer guides listed below for all Michigan community colleges and four-year colleges/universities. Numerous out-of-state institutions are also represented. If you have taken courses at a community college or another four-year college/university and would like to transfer the credits to the School of Nursing, please read the following information thoroughly.

Each transfer guide will list the courses at the specific institution which have been approved to transfer to the School of Nursing and satisfy program prerequisites. Transfer guides are intended for prospective freshman/sophomore transfer, RN Studies, and Second Career in Nursing applicants. Prerequisites vary for each School of Nursing program; all courses listed on the transfer guide may not be required for admission to the program you are interested in.

Course Description Review process

If a transfer guide for the college or university you have attended is not listed below or if a specific course you have taken is not listed on the transfer guide, please follow this Course Description Review request procedure:

1. Obtain an official course description or syllabus for each course you would like the School of Nursing to review (a course syllabus is required for review of all clinical science courses). An official course description will come from a course guide, web-listing, or the department that offers the course.

2. Complete one Course Description Review request form for each course not listed on the transfer guide that you would like to transfer to satisfy a prerequisite. (Course Description Review requests do not need to be submitted for Elective coursework). Submit the form online and print a copy of the complete form.

3. If you have an electronic version of the course description or syllabus, you may upload the file(s) onto the online request form. If you do not have an electronic version, submit the course description, syllabus, and a copy of the complete Course Description Review request form, via mail or fax to:

University of Michigan School of Nursing Office of Academic Affairs 400 North Ingalls, Suite 1160 Ann Arbor, MI 48109-0482

Fax: 734-647-1419

4. Complete requests will be reviewed by the School of Nursing Office of Academic Affairs. You will be contacted when a decision has been made.

If you have questions about the Course Description Review request process, please e-mail the School of Nursing or call (734) 763-5985.

Please note:
Allow four to six weeks for processing and review of Course Description Review requests.

  • Submit Course Description Review requests with supplemental materials to the School of Nursing by the following dates to allow adequate time for course review for the Fall 2008 application cycle:
    Freshman/sophomore transfer: December 15, 2007
    RN Studies: May 15, 2008
Second Career in Nursing: Admission for Fall 2008 is closed. Admission decisions for Fall 2009 will be made on a rolling basis; submit Course Description Review request form(s) as early as possible to allow adequate time for review prior to submitting an online application.
  • If you are interested in enrolling in a course to meet a program prerequisite that is not listed in the School of Nursing transfer guide, please follow the Course Description Review procedure.
  • A grade of "C" or above must be earned from an accredited institution to transfer a course to the University of Michigan and to satisfy a School of Nursing prerequisite.
  • The final decision regarding course equivalency will be made by the School of Nursing.
