Review Entrance Requirements. To be considered for acceptance at the sophomore level, students must complete the following transferable college level courses:

  • Normal Nutrition

  • Family Concepts

  • Lifespan Growth & Development

  • Two Social Sciences*

  • Anatomy & Physiology

  • English Composition

  • Organic Biochemistry

  • Electives** (7-8 credits)

*Two Social Sciences: an introductory and upper-level course (or two upper-level courses) in one of the following fields: Anthropology, Psychology, or Sociology. Both courses must be in the same field. One course may not satisfy two admission prerequisites.

**Electives: Courses with theory-base may transfer to the School of Nursing, such as Anthropology, Creative Arts, Economics, Environmental Issues, History, Language, Math, Philosophy, Psychology, Science (Genetics and/or Microbiology recommended), or Sociology.

Transfer Guides. The School of Nursing maintains specific transfer course equivalency guides for many colleges and universities. The course equivalency guides will contain specific information regarding courses that will transfer to the School of Nursing and satisfy program prerequisites. If you have questions regarding an institution or a course not listed on the course equivalency web site, please complete the online Course Description Review request form. E-mail the School of Nursing if you have additional questions.

Important Notes.

  • A minimum of 30 transfer credits are required for transfer.

  • All prerequisite coursework must be complete prior to enrollment at the School of Nursing.

  • Transfer students are required to take a 2-credit hour Transition to Nursing (N253) course the first term of enrollment in the School of Nursing.

  • Sophomore transfer students begin in Level II of the B.S.N. Curriculum.

  • A minimum of 128 credits required for graduation.

How to Apply. The School of Nursing accepts transfer applications for Fall semester admission ONLY. The most current information and online application is available at the Office of Undergraduate Admissions web site: http://www.admissions.umich.edu/applying.html

  • If you are a current University of Michigan Ann Arbor and would like to transfer to the School of Nursing, follow the Cross Campus Transfer guidelines.
  • If you are transferring from a community college or another university, follow the Prospective New Transfer guidelines.
  • Apply to the "Sophomore transfer" program.

Essays
The online transfer application requires two short answer (one Nursing-specific) questions and one essay. Preview the application questions. Current University of Michigan students (Cross Campus Transfer) are only required to submit the Nursing-specific short answer. One additional short answer response and one essay may be submitted, but are not required.

Nursing Supplemental Form
All transfer applicants must complete the Nursing Supplemental Form as a part of the online application. Applicants for sophomore transfer must provide complete information for Groups 1, 2, 3, and Anatomy and Physiology in Group 4. Washtenaw Community College and Jackson Community College 2+2 applicants must complete Groups 1, 2, 3, 5, and Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, and Pathophysiology in Group 4.

Official Transcripts
Official transcripts from high school and all colleges or universities you have attended must be submitted directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions:

Transcripts must be received by the posted application deadline. Please do NOT send transcripts or supplemental application materials (essays, Nursing Supplemental Form) to the School of Nursing. Submitting application materials to the School of Nursing will delay the processing of your application and may result in an “incomplete” application.

Standardized Tests
You'll need to take a standardized college admission test if you have not already done so. The report should be sent to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. We accept the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I). The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor ACT code is 2062, and the SAT code is 1839.

Application Fee
The application fee for applicants with a U.S. mailing address is $40. The application fee for applicants with an international mailing address is $55.

Application Deadline.
University of Michigan School of Nursing Transfer Application Deadlines

  • Fall 2010: February 1, 2010

All application materials must be received by the Office of Undergraduate Admission by the application deadline to receive equal consideration. Do not send application materials to the School of Nursing, this will delay the processing of your application. Applicants applying from outside the United States are encouraged to apply as early as possible and at least one month or more prior to published deadlines.
