Supporting Documentation for all applicants

It's important to get your supporting documentation going. This includes:

  • Three recommendations from individuals who have at least a master's degree and can comment on your potential success as a graduate student. Please request that narrative comments be included on the recommendation form.
  • A two-page statement that delineates your rationale for pursuing the particular graduate program. These essays are most effective when they specify the applicant's:
    a) Career history as it applies to the decision to pursue the selected course of study
    b) Professional goals for the future
    c) The applicant's appraisal of what the selected course of study will provide that will enable the achievement of professional goals.
  • A one-page personal statement that explains why you choose nursing and are seeking continuing education.
  • Official post-secondary transcripts sent to Rackham Graduate School of Admissions (915 E. Washington Street, 0504 Rackham Bldg., Ann Arbor, MI 49109-1070). NOTE: Only send to Rackham final or in progress of completing post-secondary transcripts. If you took supplemental courses at an institution in which you did not receive your BSN or MSN from please send an official copy of those transcripts directly to the School of Nursing (ATTN: Graduate program admissions, 400 North Ingalls Rm: 1160, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-5482)

Standardized Tests

Applicants whose GPA from an accredited baccalaureate program in nursing is 3.25 or higher do not need to take the GRE for admissions to the Master's Program. Should GRE scores have been taken previously, they will not be considered if the GPA meets the minimum 3.25 criteria. GRE scores are required for all Master's applicants who do not meet this criterion and for all PhD applicants. The report should be sent to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor GRE code is R1839

International students need TOEFL or IELTS scores

Complete an admission interview.

An admission interview, either in person or over the telephone, is required. When your application materials are received, the program office will contact you to schedule an interview. More on visiting campus.
