Accelerated Second Career
Nursing Program
Entrance Requirements and Prerequisites
Applicants must have:
- BA, BS, or BGS or graduate/advanced degrees from an accredited institution
- 3.0 GPA minimum highly recommended
IMPORTANT NOTE: All the enumerated prerequisites need not be completed by the time you apply, however they must be completed by the start of the program if you are offered admission.

Social science: two different level courses from either Psychology, Sociology or Anthropology. Both courses must be in the same subject area

Pharmacology
Pathophysiology (6 credits) If you do not take a 6 credit hour pathophysiology course, you must take a 3 credit hour microbiology or genetics course along with a 3 credit hour pathophysiology course to equal a total of 6 credit hours.
* These courses may be satisfied with a proficiency exam for applicants conditionally admitted to the program.
Prior to the start of the Accelerated Second Career program, conditionally admitted applicants will have the option to complete two clinical science prerequisites at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor . Clinical science courses offered during the 2008 Winter Science Semester include:
Please note: Organic Biochemistry is a prerequisite to enroll in Pharmacology; Anatomy and Physiology is a prerequisite to enroll in Pathophysiology.
Conditionally admitted and waitlisted students are not required to
complete clinical science prerequisites during the Winter Science

International Students
The University requires additional admission requirements for international applicants:
- A satisfactory score on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) for applicants whose native language is not English. For test information, see U of M Undergraduate Admissions page with information on English Proficiency Requirements
- A professional evaluation of international transcripts. A professional evaluation can be initiated through various credential evaluators such as www.WES.org or www.ECE.org and should be sent directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
- Official documentation of international school records. These documents (i.e. transcripts and proof of graduation) must be sent directly from the original international institution directly to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
