Master’s of Science Dual Degree Program in Nursing and Health Services Administration (MS/MPH)

The Schools of Nursing and Public Health offer this dual degree program jointly. This program leads to a Master’s Degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration. The dual degree program is designed to meet the needs of nurses seeking graduate education that combines nursing management, systems and health services administration and policy preparation. Students would be admitted separately to each program and would be advised jointly by School of Nursing and School of Public Health faculty.

This dual degree program can be completed in three years or five semesters on a full-time basis. This dual degree program offers a valuable and unique opportunity for nurse leaders to gain interdisciplinary preparation in both nursing systems and health services administration and policy at one of the premier educational institutions in the world. It is designed to meet the needs of students who desire preparation in both the clinical management as well as the broader health services areas.

Objectives

Students who complete the Master’s Dual Degree Program will be able to:

  • Synthesize and apply theories, models and research related to nursing business and health systems.
  • Analyze health systems and organizations to determine strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans to guide the organization or system toward successful outcomes.
  • Provide leadership and management in nursing and healthcare systems.
  • Create and innovate new ideas and develop strategy, means and methods to implement.
  • Effectively lead and manage successful change in healthcare and nursing.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must apply to and be admitted by both Schools independently. Applicants will use the respective application forms and indicate that they are applying for this dual degree program. Only one application will be required.

Prerequisites:
*An approved statistics course and an undergraduate research course must be taken and the STATS and METHODS Modules completed before registering for N536 and N603.
** Subject to approval of advisor.

The School of Nursing faculty and staff members are available to assist students in the following ways: To plan their educational program; to discuss career goals; to help students with personal, financial, or health problems; to assist students to utilize the resources available in the School and The University, including programs for improvement of study skills, financial aid, counseling and health care.
