| "If
it weren't for this program I would probably still be
trying out what I wanted to do with my career. I was fortunate
enough to work at a career fair in the final days of my
nursing program here at the university. And I was able
to meet some faculty from
the program. I was a little anxious and nervous about
being a young, new nurse with little clinical experience
starting the program. The faculty
were very welcoming. They made me feel that I had
information to offer too from a more current perspective
of being a new graduate. I was able to gain experience
through the coursework, but also internships.
One of our courses in the program is to have an internship.
I was able to go the Michigan Nursing Associations...

"The
positives for me are the flexibility
in scheduling. We meet in
class once a month. I've become much more adept
in my computer skills. Which is very important in this
day and age in nursing systems health care. I find the
instructors to be very knowledgeable
in their topics of discussion. I've learned a lot about
nursing theory; how to apply it to health care as we know
it today. This program is right on the cutting-edge
in what I found in my job on a daily basis. All in all,
I have found this program to be intensive. It's not an
easy thing to get through but it's also very rewarding.
I feel I am a much better nurse
because of this program. I really think this is
a great program for any nurse, of any age..."

"I'm
a nurse manager at a post surgical unit right now. The
primary reason I chose the Division 3 courses at University
of Michigan was first of all, University
of Michigan's reputation as being one of the finer
institutions in the country for nursing. I had
looked at going back to school in a more traditional mode,
but being a full time dad and full time nurse manager,
it was just impractical. What I found from my experiences
in my two years here, is that the faculty is everything
that I had hoped it would be. They're
academically superior people. But on top of that,
I found that each one of them has current
life experiences that have enabled me to take the
information with me back to my nursing unit... " Back

"The
courses that I took were very informative
and from the very beginning I was able to directly apply
what I was learning in the classroom to my work situation.
And I was able to use that information to make decisions
in my clinical practice. The faculty all have different
personalities and have wonderful
strengths. They have helped bring about my world
a little differently. Many of the faculty have demonstrated
compassion, understanding a drive
for perfection and the true
science of nursing. From a personal standpoint,
this has been a journey of all journeys. It is indeed
a lot of hard work and it does take commitment..."

"I'm
a graduate of the Nursing Business and Health Systems.
I'm now currently working as a lecturer at the University
of Michigan School of Nursing. I am also the project coordinator
for a government funded, online mentoring program, designed
to recruit young people, ages 15-21 into the nursing profession.
I would recommend this program for several reasons. The
first being the outstanding nurse
faculty. They bring years of experience, knowledge
and research to the classroom. Having such great
minds contribute to your education is priceless. The second
reason I would recommend this program is that it is online.
This allows you to take classes
while working and fulfilling other life obligations.
However this online program is special because it is combined
with some on campus classes... " Back

"I've
been a nurse for 20 yrs. and after 18 years of working
at various roles I decided it was time to go back for
my masters. I looked into many programs and this particular
program really seemed to meet my
needs, both work related and also family. It's
web-based, so that helps. You kind of plan your life and
it helps with scheduling.
But it also really appealed to me because I'm interested
in administration... "

"I'm
a nurse in clinical information systems and when I found
the track for a master's degree in information systems
I was really excited. I had done a lot of shopping for
a master's degree and most seemed to focus mainly in the
clinical area or educational area. So, when I saw that
U of M had something that seemed to cater
to my needs I was really excited. The
web-based curriculum seems to be a challenge but
it also seems to be a lot of fun. So I'm excited to be
here..." Back

"I'm
currently working as manager of
nurse retention at the University of Michigan Health
Systems. I joined the program a few years ago. I always
had the thought that I would finish my masters degree
by the time I was forty. I was thirty-nine and I decided
I better go talk to someone about this program. I always
felt that it was too big for me. I had newborn twins at
the time. And I felt that school would be too much and
maybe this masters degree just wasn't going to happen
for me. And then somebody told me that the program at
the University of Michigan was flexible
and it was even online, and that appealed to me.
So, I finally got the courage to make an appointment with
Dr. Kalisch and I came in and instead of feeling intimidated
I felt very welcome.... " Back

I've been in the Division 3 Nursing Program since
September of '01. I've taken it one
class at a time. I chose it because it was only
one day a month to come down here, the rest of the course
is on the computer which fit into my lifestyle better
than anything else. It is a lot of hard work, but its
very rewarding, very
good teachers. I've learned a lot. And I would
recommend it to other people if it fits in your lifestyle... Back
