Brief Autobiography
I’ve been teaching in the nurse-midwifery program at U-M since 1996. I am a Certified Nurse-Midwife and have worked in urban settings for many years as a Registered Nurse and a CNM providing care to thousands of women and attending hundreds of births. I received a B.S in Biology from Illinois Benedictine College, a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Illinois-Chicago, and my M.S. in nurse-midwifery from U. of I., and a post-Master’s Certificate in teaching from the University of Pennsylvania. I teach the Reproductive Physiology course in the midwifery program, and participate in most of the clinical courses as well as advise students. I also work for the College of LS&A as Director of the Health Sciences Scholars program, a learning community for undergraduates interested in the health professions. I consider teaching to be a kind of midwifery, where the joy is in supporting someone as they grow and become. My education as a nurse, experience as a midwife, and personal inclination lead to a supportive, collaborative teaching style and appreciation of life-long learning.
