Research

Dr. Pressler is an expert in quality of life of persons with chronic heart failure (HF). She has an ongoing program of research focused on the patient care problems that diminish quality of life in these chronically ill individuals. Currently, she is the principal investigator for a comparative study conducted to characterize the cognitive deficits experienced by individuals with HF and describe the relationships among HF severity, cognitive deficits, and quality of life (NIH NR008147). She is also part of a multisite study investigating nutrition, inflammation, and HF outcomes among persons with HF (NIH NR009280). Additionally, Dr. Pressler is conducting preliminary studies about family care giving in HF.

Teaching

Dr. Pressler has a longstanding history as a nurse educator. She has taught students at the baccalaureate, master’s, and PhD levels. Dr. Pressler has mentored undergraduate and graduate students in research experiences and they often participate as members of her research teams.

Service

Dr. Pressler is nationally recognized for her leadership roles in cardiovascular nursing. She is the Chairperson of the American Heart Association Cardiovascular Nursing Council (2007-2009). She serves as a member of the Executive Council of the Heart Failure Society of America.
