- Instructional Games
Group Quiz Game
Overview
This game follows the format of the TV quiz game Family Feud. Students play
as members of teams. Each question has multiple correct answers -
the goal is to list as many as possible.
The great advantage of this type of game over a "Jeopardy" type
game is that students are encouraged to collaborate.
Members of the "active" team take turns listing correct answers
- but meanwhile, the other team is in a huddle listing as many answers
as they can, as a group - because if the first team draws a blank, the
second team has the opportunity to "steal" an answer.
How to use it in class
- This is especially good for getting students to remember multiple correct
answers - for example, listing possible causes of a symptom, possible treatments
for a condition, side effects of a drug, risk factors for a disease, etc.
- Quick review after a large "information dump" from readings
or lectures - great for waking up students in the middle of a long lecture!
- Chapter review exercise
- Test preparation
Preparation and materials needed
- Prepare question/answer cards
- Some sort of noisemaker for each student - a rattle, bell, squeaker,
etc. Alternatively, students can simply slap a hand on a desk
- Paper and pencil for keeping score
