The University
of Michigan School of Nursing is currently ranked number three for its graduate
programs (by US News), and it ranks seventh in federally funded research.
The School was founded in 1893, began offering a BSN degree in 1944, a MS
program in 1961, and a PhD program in 1975.
The School's longstanding national and international
reputation for excellence in education, patient care, research and community
service is due to the exceptional quality of the faculty, students and staff,
and the impressive accomplishments of its over 10,000 alumni. Graduates of
the School of Nursing work and live in Michigan, in many US States, and in
a number of countries around the world. Many of them are the leaders and
best in a variety of health care and policy settings as well as in their
communities.
Strong alumni support of the School has contributed to
its success. Alumni have been active in participating in School, student
and alumni activities (such as providing undergraduate and graduate scholarships,
mentoring students, hosting an annual fall reunion and conferring outstanding
alumni awards). With declining support from the State, private donations
have become more important than ever. Alumni have made steady contributions
to provide more direct support for students, nursing research, and new models
for nursing care; and, they have been especially helpful in identifying non-alumni
funding sources.
Truly, University of Michigan School of Nursing Alumni
are among the Leaders and Best.
