Giving to the School of Nursing
Creating a Legacy (Planned Gifts and Bequests)
A gift can create a legacy – that will live forever by providing on-going support to the School, its students, faculty and programs. Donations can be directed to support a specific purpose or area, as well as to the School's Legacy Fund (that is used by the Dean to support the greatest needs of the School). If you would like to make a gift to the School of Nursing, planning ahead and working with the Alumni – Development Office can have definite advantages to ensure the gift will support the donor's interests as well as exploring immediate and estate tax relief.
Planned Gifts
There are many ways to give to the School and some ways allow a person to realize a dream of providing support even when a budget may not seem to make it possible. Some gifts can provide lifetime income; some gifts provide tax advantages that benefit the donor immediately as well as the donor's heirs; and, some gifts ensure a portion of an estate that might otherwise go to taxes will be used to support the School.
Bequests
A bequest is a way in which a donor can use assets during her/his lifetime, and then provide ongoing support. Careful planning can sometimes ensure that inheritance tax savings will not negatively impact gifts to heirs and other interests the donor wishes to recognize.
If you have made a bequest to the School or are thinking of making a bequest to the School, the Alumni – Development Office can be of assistance to make sure the bequest includes language that directs the gift to the School of Nursing. The School will then use the gift exactly as the donor directs. Those who have made a bequest and let the School know can be recognized for the gift during her and/or his life. Anyone making a bequest becomes a member of the University's prestigious Monteith Society and they will receive special notice of University and School publications and events.
