Alumni News and Updates
School of Nursing Alumni Society History
The School of Nursing Alumnae Association was formed in 1900, changed its name
in 1969 to the School of Nursing Alumni Association, and then changed the named
again in 1993 to School of Nursing Alumni Society. Led by an enthusiastic and
dynamic Board of Governors, the Alumni Society provides support to the School
through a variety of programs and facilitates communication among all alumni.
The Board of Governors meetings twice a year and its Committees that lead a
variety of programs, meet via conference call twice a year or more often if
needed. Officers are elected by the Board and serve two-year terms of office.
Current Alumni Society activities include an annual reunion for classes celebrating
5-year graduation anniversaries (all alumni are welcome!), Alumni Awards that
recognize two or more outstanding and distinguished alumni each year, Emeritus
Class induction of 50-year grads into the UM Emeritus Club, scholarships for
undergraduate and graduate students, a Mentors Program that matches current
students with alums, and various other initiatives.
For information about alumni activities, the Board of Governors or how to
