Michael Koteles Award
Purpose of the Koteles Award and Fund:
The Koteles Award and Fund was established to honor the memory of Michael
Koteles who became known during his eight years as Registrar of the School.
This award is intended to recognize his significant contributions to the
School of Nursing.
Mr. Koteles is remembered for his trademark precepts for living, which were
explicit in the way he embraced life. Ever the optimist, he was consistently
caring of individuals and the School. He applied abundant creativity as he
used every bit of his personal resources to absorb the fullness of life.
He inspired those who knew and worked with him to embrace living as he did.
The inspiration deepened as Michael’s courageous struggle against the
AIDS virus challenged the qualities that were so admired in him. Even in
the midst of the greatest challenges, his optimism, expansive outlook, creativity,
and caring were exemplary.
The intent of this award is to acknowledge a member of the School of Nursing
support staff who most closely emulates the exemplary qualities for which
Michael Koteles became known during his tenure at the School. While there
will never be another like Michael, it is important to recognize a current
staff member who is trying to emulate his sterling qualities.
