Directions in Nursing Research Technology
Welcome to this section of the Grants and Research Office web
site that presents resources for you to explore in using the latest
data collection and intervention study technology in your research.
This section will expand as we discover more resources that may
be useful to you in increasing your "competitive edge" for external
funding. A directory of resources with brief descriptions is provided
with hyperlinks to allow you to easily access more information
on each resource.
The mission of the HMRC is to integrate technology, art and behavioral
science to create and research health interventions that inspire
informed health decisions, broaden access to health information
and advance the field of health education. The HMRC assists faculty
in the development of health materials with special emphasis on
developing algorithms that generate individually tailored materials
for health behavior assessment and health promotion and risk reduction
interventions. They assist with the design, development and testing
of a variety of educational multimedia which includes 3D animation,
video, sound, dynamic interactive text, web sites and CD-ROMS.
Examples of projects include: Michigan Interactive Kiosk Project,
Enhanced Health Risk Appraisal, and Tailored Alcohol Messages
in the Emergency Room. The HMRC is a part of the UM Comprehensive
Cancer Center.

The laboratory focuses on industrial application of virtual environments
and related applications relevant to the College of Engineering.
In addition, activities of the VRL include use of virtual reality
in medicine, health, architecture, archeology, education and other
areas. The VRL is an interdisciplinary facility. Applications
to health and medicine offer many exciting possibilities for simulating
and testing environments that have the potential to promote health
and well being. The VRL offers a virtual reality course that is
intended to familiarize professionals in various disciplines with
the research and application potential of virtual reality.

The Media Union brings together information resources, information
technology, production studios, and the combined talents of information
professionals from across campus units to serve the University
community. The Media Union is intended as an all-campus resource
and a place to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, integrative
learning and exploration.
