Clinical Practice & Partnerships
Office for Community Partnerships
About Us
The Office for Community Partnerships (OCP) provides leadership for the
development of partnerships with communities and clinical agencies and supports
clinical initiatives that promote and advance research, education, and practice
as the tripartite mission of the School of Nursing.
In support of these goals, OCP facilitates and develops relationships
with clinical preceptors and agencies that advance the educational and
research programs of the School. OCP's role includes oversight for the
implementation and management of the computerized clinical partnership
database that electronically tracks more than 650 clinical agreements
in Michigan, an additional 26 sites in other states, plus nine international
sites. OCP also provides oversight to the UM Nursing Practice Network,
a role that includes implementation and management of the School's Faculty
Practice Plan, and oversees two Academic Nurse Managed Centers, three outreach
clinics, and two School Based Clinics that are operated in partnership
with the UMHS and Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Nurse Managed Centers:
- North Campus Family Health Service (NCFHS) was
initiated by community health faculty and undergraduate students in 1991
to address high infant mortality on North Campus. This primary care health
clinic serves international graduate students and their families. NCFHS
also provides pre-natal care, community education classes, and WIC services
in nearly 3,000 encounters per year.
- Community Family Health Center (CFHC) is a community-based
primary health center created by a partnership between the University
of Michigan Health System Department of Nursing and the University
of Michigan School of Nursing. Opened in 1997, it is located in a part
of Ann Arbor where the largest percentage of residents are below the
median income. Designed to increase access using innovative models of
nursing care, the clinic serves 300 patients in over 2,500 encounters
per year, and is staffed by advanced practice nursing faculty.

Clinical Sites and Affiliation Agreements
OCP processes requests for affiliation agreements and gathers preceptor
and clinical site information for our student clinical
placements. The data are housed in the Central Clinical Placement Database
(CCPD). The forms, policies and procedures, and user guide are available
as Adobe Acrobat files. Also available is a Michigan map with MUA/MUP designations
by county including number of clinical sites.
Each term faculty are asked to complete a clinical
site evaluation form for each clinical site used by our students. It
is a web-based form and when submitted, the completed form goes directly
to staff in OCP.
