The Doctoral Program Office is the primary point of contact for all information
about the PhD Program for students, faculty, staff, and potential applicants.
It serves as the home base for nursing doctoral students throughout their
course of study at the University of Michigan .
A range of services are provided by the Office. Examples of these services
include:
Participation in School of Nursing recruitment activities,
particularly around PhD Program recruitment
Provision of program information to all who inquire about
doctoral studies in nursing
Management of the application process, including coordination
of all application materials, communicating with applicants, and working
with the Admissions Committee
Coordination of all activities with Rackham Gradudate School
as it relates to applications and admissions, student progression and
advancement, including candidacy and graduation
Monitoring of student progression throughout the program
Allocation of financial aid
Nomination of students for campus level fellowships and scholarships
Mentoring of junior faculty as they prepare to work with
doctoral students
Final approval of students' program plans and nomination
of faculty for committee memberships
Compilation of statistics and quality indicators about students,
the curriculum, and the PhD Program
Preparation of applications for program funding
Annual evaluation of each student
Preparation of Program Handbooks
Conduct of new student orientation
Coordination of activities with Doctoral Student Organization
Provision of academic guidance and career counseling to students
and alumni
Coordination of academic activities with other educational
programs in the School of Nursing
Representation of the PhD Program within the University as
well as beyond campus
