International Scholars Program
Procedures and Guidelines for International Scholars
All requests from international visitors and scholars are directed
to the School of Nursing Office of International Affairs, University
of Michigan. In applying for scholarly experiences or short-term
visits, the following information is needed to conduct and complete
a review of applications:
curriculum vitae for each visitor, objectives of the visit, resources
needed, and projected utilization and benefit of probable learning.
In instances where the request is for a postdoctoral training, a faculty
mentor is identified whose work is a good match for the scholar, and the
request is discussed with that faculty member.
Scholars are not asked to submit a regular application form required of
those applying for degree programs; however, prospective scholars may be
asked to submit other relevant information to assist in a full evaluation
of the request; examples of these are: evidence of competent use of the
English language to assure full benefit from the study period; evidence
that degree requirements in home country have been completed; examples of
scientific papers published or presented at professional meetings, among
others.
A minimum of three months
must be allowed as lead time to allow for review and appropriate planning.
World Health Organization Fellows apply to their Regional Offices;
requests to the School of Nursing to accommodate these fellows comes from
the Regional Office for the Americas (PAHO); the Office of International
Affairs communicates with the Fellowships office at PAHO to assure that
all relevant information has been submitted to enable a review of the
request.
