Accelerated Second Career Program Study Groups
Accelerated Second Career Program
The Peer Facilitated Study Group and Clinical Support Project
(PFSGCSP) was initiated in 1996. The Study Groups are basded on cooperative and collaborative learning among a wide variety of diverse learners, led by a peer facilitator who has been successful in previously completeing the desired course content. All undergraduate students can choose to participate in or facilitate Study Groups.
The Clinicial Support component of the project provides one-on-one coaching by a practicing registered nurse in a clinical setting for targeted students.
The project is
designed to improve retention, progression and graduation rates
of students in the undergraduate degree program within the University
of Michigan School of Nursing from populations that are underrepresented
in professional nursing includin ethnic adn racil groups. Today
the project is known as the GENESIS
Project.
This year, we are expanding the Peer Facilitated Study Groups and Clinical Support Project to meet the needs of the Accelerated Second Career Program. All 2nd Career Students are required to actively participate in the on-line collaborative learning groups for all terms, and are eligible for Clinical Support.
All 2nd Career PFSG will be held on-line through Course Tools. The purpose of the study groups is to afford the 2nd Career Students an opportunity to enhance, integrate, and translate course information into knowledge to guide their professional practice.
The goal of the on-line study groups is to facilitate students' ability to transfer nursing knowledge into practice arena.
