   CLINICAL SUPPORT PROJECT

The goal of the Clinical Support Project is to provide clinical support personnel to work with students of color who are experiencing difficulty with clinical course work and are in need of more individualized instruction for theory integration and application to clinical practice. The clinical support project is funded by the State of Michigan, Department of Education, Office of Equity Select Student Support Services (4-S) Program.

Clinical support personnel are selected based upon the individual needs of the student and can range from a peer who might assist the student in learning a task in the simulation lab to a baccalaureate or Masters prepared registered nurse with extensive, current experience in clinical practice who would provide one-on-one opportunities at a clinical site. Financial compensation of all clinical support personnel is provided through the 4-S grant and is commensurate with education and experience.

This support is available for students who have received an early or mid-term warning from their clinical instructor and are subsequently referred to the project by the course coordinator, clinical faculty, or the student.

Faculty should complete the Clinical Support Project Referral Form when requesting this service for students and notify the student that a referral is being made. The Multicultural Affairs will coordinate the clinical support. The student should complete the Student Data Form.

Receiving clinical support does not assure passing the clinical. The course coordinator, clinical faculty and clinical support nurse will determine evaluation and grading.

If you are a clinical nurse and would like to provide support to students, please complete the Clinical Support Nurse Data Form.
