Ruth Barnard Hormonal Influences
Ruth Barnard, PhD, RN, studies the effect of hormone replacement therapy on cognitive functioning in perimenopausal women. Her recent work with a colleague investigated the underlying causes of selected menopausal symptoms and tested interventions to assist women dealing with these symptoms. These investigations led to the finding that menopausal hot flashes are very much influenced by ambient temperature, with cooler temperatures significantly decreasing their frequency and intensity. In addition to these studies, Dr Barnard is an enthusiastic proponent and user of evolving computer technology and its applications in research settings.
