MESA is a partnership between the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UM-SN) and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio School of Nursing (UTHSCSA-SN). This project is funded by a grant from the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities and the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The Center's purpose is to:

  • Develop culturally appropriate research methods and expand the number of nurses involved in health disparities research.
  • Develop web-enhanced modules to enhance students’ and faculties’ abilities to conduct research in health disparities.
  • Focus on health promotion and health restoration.

The establishment of the MESA Center has increased the visibility of nurse researchers as significant contributors in addressing health disparities.

The UM MESA team has developed a number of online learning modules relating to health disparities and culturally competent research methods.  The modules (linked below) are available for use by anyone in health and research fields; we simply ask that you link to the pages below (instead of trying to copy the files for re-distribution) and that you please give MESA appropriate authorship credits.
