SN-ITS

So WHO in the world is sn-its?
Well if you've been around the SoN for awhile you may have noticed that sn-its has become kind of like the word "smurf". It can be a verb as in "I'll sn-it you about that". Sometimes it is also a noun as in "I'll send you a sn-it about that". What it really stands for is "School of Nursing Information Technology Support". That's us...the wonderful people who run around fixing your computers.

Great, so now we know who you are but WHAT can you do for me?
Well we can do a number of things for you. Some of the things we do everyday are...install new software...fix printers...fix computer hardware...help you learn certain software packages...set up new computers...set up laptops for classroom presentations...help with email...and much more. If it's not listed here, it doesn't mean we don't do it since this is just a short list of examples. If you have a question and you think we might be able to help please ask us. If we can't do it we will find someone who can.

So now we know who you are and what you do, but WHERE are you?
Well, we are actually located right here in the SoN. Now, as much as we like people coming by to visit, that is really not the best way to get computer help.

So HOW do we reach you?
Email, Email, Email. Did you say email? Yes, Email! But really, all of our help requests come in through an automated email program and are given a number. This number is really important to us. It helps us prevent losing track of where requests stand, let alone losing a request entirely. As much as we like to see the people we help, coming by our office to visit or grab one of us is really not the best way to get computer help.

Generally we resolve requests in order of severity and urgency and then by the order they come in. So if you have an emergency or truly urgent problem, put "URG" in the subject of the message and we'll come as soon as we can. Please understand, however, that we can't answer everyone's request in one day, even if everything's urgent. ;-) It usually takes 2-5 working days for a request to works its way through the queue.

Our email address is sn-its@umich.edu. Make sure when you email us that you put that dash between the "n" and the "i". A lot of times when people email us they leave out that dash and their email gets bounced back. If you can't email us then please leave a voice mail message at (734) 764-4425.

Who, what, where..we know what's coming next..tell us the WHEN!
Well the team of us is here Monday through Friday from 8 to 5. Since most of the technicians are still full time students we run in and out of the building in between our own classes, but someone is here during all work hours.
